Second Hand Smoke Second Hand Smoke In the 1950's and 60's scientists gave the people a lot of evidence on the deadly effects of smoking where the tobacco companies on the other hand tried to put the doubt in people’s minds through the campaigns to show that it is not all true. By the time people actually decided to take care of their health and finally saw how life-threatening smoking could be by real life examples, the tobacco companies already got rich from its sales. Nowadays, nobody doubts that â€Å"firsthand† smoke is deadly to your health and it causes lung cancer and heart disease in adults and asthma and bronchitis in children. Now the industry is onto the secondhand smoke. Scientists and researchers are representing a lot of evidence and research that has been done throughout the years showing that the secondhand smoke can also cause a lung cancer in nonsmokers. The study has been done of people who have been long exposed to secondhand smoke and it shows that 26 out of 33 publ ished studies indicate a link between secondhand smoke and lung cancer. The study estimates that the people that were breathing secondhand smoke were 8 to 150 percent more likely to get lung cancer. The tobacco companies are trying to argue the facts and are still in serious debate about the health hazards of breathing a secondhand smoke. A lot of anti-smoking organizations are trying to turn smoking in public into a private activity that does not have to involve nonsmokers breathing secondhand smoke. What is even more important is that many of these organizations convinced a lot of smokers to cut back or quit completely. The problem of secondhand smoke is increasing because it is so common in our society. It makes secondhand smoke the third-ranking cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers. Mothers who live with a smoking spouse have to realize the ill effects of secondhand smoke on children even before they are born. The smoking components reach the developing fetus through the mother . Infants that are born in a smoking environment weigh less and have a weaker chance of becoming a fully developed child. Secondhand smoke leads to blood clots and damages arterial linings which are the two most leading factors in the development of heart disease. The tobacco companies got scared of the effect that the secondhand smoke research can do to the cigarette makers.

As a response to the losses of 2005, Melanin and Barge formulated a recovery plan, which co ntained a raise of the average fares, a more efficient usage of capacities and extending their services to small and medium cities, where they had less competition. Furthermore they stressed their principle to fly with a delay rather than canceling a flight.The airline also stated to improve their workforce productivity wrought better trainings, smatter business processes and more extensive use of automation. To control the rising fuel prices the company wanted to implement financial hedging strategies. As a reaction to the operation loss the managers refused bonuses and delayed the purchase of 36 new planes. Enjoyed three successive profitable quarters, with only $1 million in the red. The communication and coordination between the employees struggled and Stable's service system was completely overloaded.The staff on board were not aware of hat was happening outside and as they had never handled such a problem before, they didn't know how to handle it. Also the company's principle of not canceling any flights if possible and instead keeping the passengers on the airplanes led to criticism, bad media and unsatisfied customers. Stubble reacted to the happening with a public apology and announced that every passenger who was stuck on the plane for more than three hours would get a full refund and a free roundup ticket and to those whose flight has been cancelled a full refun d.They also published a Customer's Bill of Rights which specified the imposition terms. The company could have published a Customer Bill of Rights before the storm happening since such an issue had happened earlier with Northwest airlines and it had led to a lot of bad press and clearly from the way employees reacted it shows that they were not trained to handle such difficult situations which could have been pre-meditated.Even if the way Stable's management took action, (like when Dave Barge went to JIFF on the day of the storm to take a look at the situation and speak to passengers and creamers, or the fact that David Melanin became the public ace of the crisis to give interviews, was a good way of dealing with the situation) the company would have needed someone in the management who was more experienced with handling such circumstances or been in similar situations before.To better overcome such crisis the staff should have been trained by experienced coaches, that give instruct ions how to act in such cases. It is easy to compare certain things because of their proximity to one another and because of their similar nature. For instance, I wrote about Basque and Catalonian independence in Spain. While it may be apt to say that they are the same for a number of reasons. They were inherently different because of the small details that change their trajectory to land close to each other but not in the same place. Much is the same when comparing Hobbes’ and Locke’s theories on government, human nature, and natural law. Both may come to the same conclusion about the existence of natural laws and how that shapes human nature. However, they disagree on what the natural law would be comprised of. The same can be said for how differently they view the origins and role of governments. Hobbes would argue that governments are made from power and fear, and serve the purpose of keeping the covenant by protecting the inhabitants. Locke, on the other hand would argue that the basis of govern ments is law, and that the purpose of governments is to protect property rights. These and other factors will be examined to make a comparison and contrast of the two philosophers to determine if it is apt to say their theories are identical. One of the main points of contention between these two philosophers is whether the population has the right to revolt against its government. Locke would argue that the people would have a right to revolt against their government.
